Meeting the Standards with Digital Video (Windows MovieMaker) Register
Learn how to engage students through the use of challenging digital video projects that bring out higher level thinking in students of any ability level. Discover how to make the most of equipment that your school already owns. In this non-intimidating session, teachers will learn how to engage students through the use of challenging digital video projects that bring out higher level thinking in students of any ability level while supporting your area standards.

Workshop 1.3: Using Audacity for Podcasting for Educators (Windows) Workshop full!
Learn how to incorporate podcasts into your curriculum to increase student engagement. The podcasts may be used to create lessons, monthly newsletters, or provide study prep for unit tests. Participants will explore the different types of podcasts and how they may be used to support the curriculum. The session will use Audacity, a free cross-platform sound editor, to create, edit, and convert their files so that they may publish their podcast.

Workshop 1.4: Get Inspired About Data (InspireDataTM) Register
Do you feel overwhelmed with data bombarding you from all directions? Then get inspired about data. Come explore how you can move instantly from data collection to data analysis with time series animated plot graphs that support the inquiry process and assist teachers to easily identify trends in a variety of ways to help monitor EL, Special Ed or at risk students in order to make instructional decisions.
This workshop introduces InspireData as a tool to help participants apply visual learning strategies to discover the meaning in data.

Workshop 1.6: The Wonderful World of Wikis Workshop full!
Learn how to create a Wiki for use with student projects, classroom websites, and group collaboration. During this workshop, participants will create a wiki space using PBWiki. "It's as easy to make as a peanut butter sandwich." See best practices of how teachers are implementing this collaborative online tool into their classrooms, and develop a structure for using it with your own students.

Workshop 1.8: Teaching and Communicating Using iDVD Register
Participants will harness the power of Apple's iLife suite (primarily iDVD and iMovie) to make instructional and communication-oriented DVD's. These interactive DVD's can be used for time-shifted and place-shifted learning.

Workshop 2.3: Creating Engaging Learning Opportunities Using Images and Sound Workshop full!
This workshop will address using Windows Movie Maker software to simplify the process of integrating online images with recorded voice to create dynamic and stimulating movie resources to enhance teaching and learning. This is a practical hands-on workshop which aims to simplify the processes of integrating online images with recorded voice. We will show participants step-by-step the basic tools and skills needed to create dynamic and stimulating movie resources that can be used to enhance teaching and learning.

Workshop 2.4: Marzano, Multimedia, and Me Register
This hands-on workshop will look at the nine research-based strategies identified by Robert Marzano as being effective in improving student achievement. We will concentrate on using Inspiration software to modify and create graphic organizers which support several of the strategies including comparing/contrasting, non-linguistic representation, and advance organizers.

Workshop 2.5: MUVE into your Second Life! Register
MUVE into your Second Life in this hands-on session that will explore learning in a MUVE (Multi-User Virtual Environment). Similar to online multi-player games, Second Life has powerful new ways to engage students. Real-time 3D environments supporting avatars encourage online interaction without a script. The session will include a discussion and examination of exemplary student projects and participants will create their own avatars to navigate the virtual world. Come explore this exciting emerging technology while learning how educators are using MUVE’s in the classroom.

Workshop 2.6: Enhanced Podcasting for K-12 Teachers (Macintosh) Register
Learn how to incorporate podcasts into your curriculum to increase student engagement. Participants will explore the different types of podcasts and how they may be used to support the curriculum. By using a Macintosh computer and microphone, participants will create an enhanced podcast of a classroom lesson.

Workshop 2.7: Google Earth: Virtual Field Trips and Virtual Voyages (Macintosh) Register
This hands-on session will introduce participants to the concept of Google Lit Trips, creating virtual field trips using Google Earth and online resources. Combining the resources of Google Earth, the Internet, and adopted materials, participants in this session will create a mini lit trip to explore the features of Google Earth. Using Google Earth as the basis of the project, participants will learn how to place markers on sites associated to a standards based concept. Participants will also learn how to expand the map markers to include text, video, and audio extensions to enhance student learning.

Workshop 2.8: iWeb Possibilities: Portfolios, Programs, Online Magazines Register
This presentation will discuss creating digital portfolios and an online magazine to showcase student achievement using Apple’s iWeb. Examples from the Digital Arts Technology Academy will be discussed in addition to an overview of the software used.

Workshop 3.1: Google for Educators - More Than Just a Search Tool Register

Workshop 3.2: I Didn't Know You Could Do That With PowerPoint! Workshop full!
See how to build logic into your PowerPoint presentations to create self-grading quizzes, countdown timers, dichotomous keys, and save it so that it cannot be tinkered with. Examples shown will be a quiz that tells how many questions were answered correctly, a dichotomous key that tells what kind of rock you are holding, and a survey that tells students if they are on the right track to get into college. Participants will learn the logic and practice using the skills to make a quiz and countdown timer.

Workshop 3.3: Instant Student and Faculty ePortfolios Register
Every student and faculty should have an ePortfolio. Students can use their ePortfolio as a record of their learning with evidence of achievements. They can also build career ePortfolios to help them collect and manage artifacts related to their future career goals. Faculty use their ePortfolios to showcase their curriculum vitae, areas of academic research and achievement, and related artifacts. This presentation demonstrates how non-technical users can easily create and manage their ePortfolios, build content, upload their work, and manage permissions. Participants will learn how to quickly and easily build an ePortfolio and keep it up-to-date with little effort.

Workshop 3.8: 24/7 Student Technology Register
This presentation will provide hands-on guidelines for implementing a 24/7 student technology program. Participants will engage in activities designed to create a first draft plan for an in-depth grade-level side technology applications. This plan will focus on student involvement and define the technology as an everyday tool, as distinguished from an occasional use environment.

Workshop 4.2: Web Simulations for Inquiry-Based Science Education Register
This workshop will demonstrate how interactive web-based simulations are a convenient and effective way to bring inquiry-based learning into the classroom. The NSF-funded Virtual Courseware Project (ScienceCourseware.org) will demonstrate free online inquiry-based simulations for life science topics which are aligned to the science content standards. Participants will be guided through activities, assignments, and student assessments on topics such as patterns of genetic inheritance and natural selection. Students make observations, propose hypotheses, design experiments, collect and analyze data generated by the software, and synthesize and communicate results through an electronic journal and an online report. The simulations enhance traditional curricula and provide a supplement to experimental laboratory work.

Workshop 4.4: All About Rubrics – Build, Exchange, Assign, and Assess Register
Rubrics are powerful learning and assessment tools proving beneficial in a number of disciplines and assessment needs. This presentation introduces rubrics for assessment, their usage, pros and cons, and construction methods. Attendees will learn how to build rubrics, score student work using rubrics, and automatically communicate the results with students. They will also view the process from students’ perspective. Then they are presented with collaborative assessments with an example of ePortfolio rubric. The presentation will conclude with a collaborative assessment of this presentation by attendees and analysis of the results. Q & A will be done throughout the presentation.

Workshop 4.8: Embedding Media into Classroom Instruction Workshop full!
Demonstrate the power of media in relation to classroom instruction and project creation in order to motivate students and attain student buy-in and increase academic learning across all content areas. Our students have grown up in a world filled with instant messaging, iPods, TiVo, cell phones, MySpace, and the Internet. Some might argue that students are plugged in and tuned out. How do we get students tuned into their education? By creating meaningful and well designed lessons that incorporate the technology they are used to.
