iTELL: integrating Technology for English Language Learners

  • CTAP
  • Professional Development

round itell logointegrating Technology for English Language Learners (iTELL) is a two- or three-day program designed to prepare teachers to implement research-based strategies that integrate technology in their classrooms. These strategies have been shown to improve teaching and enhance learning for EL students.

During this training, participants will create technology-enhanced products that can immediately be used in the classroom. The products will include: an online graphic organizer to organize research concepts, Google Maps, a Voice Thread slide show narrative, and the use of Evernote to capture ideas for lesson planning. Other Web 2.0 tools such as bubbl.us, and online resource collections such as Thinkfinity will be explored and analyzed for their best uses to support English Learners.

With the coming of the iPad, iTELL now offers two different modules: one for the laptop/desktop and one for the iPad/iPod/iPhone.  The iPad module will offer resources for integrating applications into lesson plans that are comparable and sometimes identical to those found on the web and used with desktop computers. Similarly, the laptop/desktop training will offer resources for integrating on-line technology into lesson plans.

All of the resources offered in iTELL trainings, though specifically targeted for the special needs of ELL students, will also engage all learners.

Please note the new Common Core Standards will diligently be incorporated into all iTELL lessons.

In order to make the best use of the time, participants should bring their Teacher’s Edition and/or other curriculum materials. Participants should plan to implement at least one strategy or product created between sessions.

The iTELL curriculum can be customized to address technology tools and resources available in your district. iPad apps, Photo Story 3, Inspiration, and California Streaming can be addressed through custom training based on district request.

Cost

$150 per participant for two days of training, or $225 per participant for three days of training. Registration fee includes flash drive of resources and all materials.
