2007 CSTS – We’re off and running!

The 2007 California School Technology Survey (CSTS), the annual “count of computers” in each school in California began on Monday, January 22, 2007. While the notion “count of computers” is rather simplistic, many use that idea to separate the CSTS from the EdTechProfile, which is the teachers’ annual self-assessment of their technology skills and classroom integration knowledge.
Actually, the CSTS is not only a “count of computers.” This important data collection helps measure the progress of technology integration in California classrooms, is a requirement for several education technology-funded programs, and is used by the California Department of Education to determine grant eligibility and awards. It is important for districts and schools to accurately complete the 2007 California School Technology Survey within the specified time frame in order to meet the grant requirements.
On Friday, February 23, 2007, the CDE Educational Technology Department released the first numbers on completion statistics for CSTS. Region 10 RIMS CTAP is currently the 4th highest ranking of the 11 CTAP regions for CSTS school site completion. Region 10 has 997 schools, over 10% of the total number of schools (9,310) in the State of California!
The final completion date for the CSTS is Friday, April 6, 2007. However, we are expecting that Region 10 schools and districts will finish long before that closing date. Tracking all 997 of the region’s schools and the 70 district offices is a daunting task, but we’re up for it as usual this year!
We would like to recognize Mammoth Unified School District (Mono County) and Big Pine Unified School District (Inyo County) as being the first two districts to have fully completed and entered both school and district CSTS report data!
